hi, expert, anyone know or have such experience, pls share with
My citizenship application has been more than 1.5 years, the delay is mostly due to the requirement of fingerprint i the middle of the application. this fingerprint thing took 8 months. after CIC got the fingerprint result, unfortunately my other background checks ( immigration and security)expired, so they have to be reworked. I wonder how long it will take to rework the background check and eventuallycan to take the test. I am frustrated with this. pls help. thanks a lot

HI, THERE, glad to see your reply. I applied in June 2002, my file was transfered to toronto office in sept.according to e client, my file was transfered to toronto to take test and oath. and then in jan 2003 they sent me a letter asking me to take the finger print. this took 8 months untill it was finalized in late oct, 2003. i called them and i was told that they are now rework my background checks , because it has passed one year and no longer valid. they began the rework in nov, 2003. now it has been 3 months from there. who knows how long it will take. i came from ny before landing almost 5 years ago.
by the way, i learned from your other replies that you are intersted in foreclosure real estate. i myself am looking for this kind of business, if possible we may work together in this line. thanks

Sorry to hear it. Do you know how often the citizen applicant will be asked to take finger print, which will mess up all the personal plan because of this delay. Thanks. and Good luck.

Hi EagleFly,
I am in a similar predicament. I applied in the end of Dec 2002. Got a request for fingerprint that I submitted in July 2003 and will be approaching the 8 month time period shortly. I have tried calling the Call Center but it is always busy. I have a couple of questions based on your experience.
Q1) Does the e-client echo when the RCMP background check fingerprints are received by them or when the check gets completed? For me it continues to show the last message stating that they sent out the letter requesting the finger print...If you have not yet provided the information, please do so as soon as possible...
Q2) What other immigration and security background checks are they reworking for you? Please don’t tell me you have to go through the fingerprinting and wait for another 8 months for RCMP to respond.
Thank you in anticipation of your response.
Regards, DJ

Hi Reda,
After the file is transfered to the local office (with e-client message stating you will be contacted for the test), if needed the e-client will tell you that they sent out the finger printing request for you. Untill you get the notification you are safe. The time window you are guessing for me is correct, the request was sent out 7 months later. Good Luck!
Regards, DJ

hi, dj, just read your message.for the 1 question, you get nothing from e client status, for the 2 one, as background checks are valid for a year, after that it needs to be redone,

Hi EagleFly,
Thank you for your response. So you had to do the fingerprints again and now waiting for RCMP to respond again? Sounds like a Catch 22.
Thanks, DJ

Hi, My husband (from Central America) is now in same boat. My other friend's file (she's originally from Eastern Europe) who also was asked for fingerprint in NOV-2002 is still in process. Neither my husband or my friend have any criminal records, therefore both received "blue" fingerprint form. (if other colour, such as "brown" means those who already be considered to have records, pls see Immigration Canada site)
Both of them initially came to Canada under refugee claimants. That's only things they're in common. Anybody those who are asked for fingerprints have ever be refugee claimants?
By the way, my husband became permanent resident as individual applicant anyway, (he cancelled refugee claim), but at the Vancouber airport, he was asked to drop by at the immigration office. Just because he was a former refugee claimant. He was told he'll be called to Immigration office each time returning from other country till he receives Canadian Citizenship. Any situation like this?????

Hi all,
I am in the similar situation. Noone knows how long we need to wait for the test, the only thing we can do is to 'wait'.

Hi eaglefly,
I got the similar situation. I sent my citizenship application on Jan 03, 2003. It's a family package including the application for my wife. We got a letter on May 17, 2003 and told my wife to take a finger print. She did that right after and sent the form to the place they mentioned. We haven't got any response since then. I don't know if they got the finger print or not. I tried to call them using 1-888-242-2100 but always got busy tone!!! as if no one was there!!!!
eaglefly, do you know any other number I can use to reach Toronto offcie of CIC? or wherever I can get an answer?
This is really a pain!!!
Thanks a lot,
Any useful info is greatly appreciated!

Hello,
Just to let everyone know, I finally got my notice to appear for the citizenship test. My time period was approximately 8 months after the fingerprints were submitted.
Good luck to everyone!

Hi, no need to get frustrated when you compare your case with mine. My application for citizenship has been pending morethan 1.5 years from the date of my citizenship written test, in which I got everything correct.Afterwards, I could not appear before the citizenship judge on their first call. I am still awaiting for their second & final call, as mentioned in first call letter. Since things are in a hanging stage, I am unable to make any solid investment on real estate in Canada.

Finger print notice should happen before written test. Normally if you are chosed to take the finger print test, then you can't take the written test. Is that possible that you taket the written test first, then you are notified you have to be take finger print. please clarify it.
Thanks.

I applied for citizenship in late sept 2003 and online status shows that my file is transferred to local immigration office on 12th feb 2004 but still i m waiting to get a letter for written test. Although one of my friend who applied after me already appeared for test in march. Kindly let me know the cause of the delay in my case

We're not Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), so I am unable to tell you what cause there is, if any, for the difference in test dates.
It can take up to 10 months to a year or more to get your test, so you are still within normal timelines.
However, to find out for sure, call the CIC Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100 and speak to a Citizenship representative.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.
