How can I know if a law firm is serious and legal? A law firm is saying they can do my immigration paperwork for $5,000. Is this an excessive amount? Is there anyway I can make sure it's not a scam?

The firm is called Benchetrit. Anyone?

You can find useful information to help you to decide here:

Should I get help with my immigration application from an immigration consultant or lawyer?
http://www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4000555

For example:

Some Questions to Ask a Lawyer/Consultant Before You Hire Them:

1. Are you a member in good standing of your professional regulatory/licensing body?
2. How long have you been practising?
3. What's your success rate? Are they telling you that they can guarantee success?
4. Do you belong to a professional association in Canada or Ontario?
5. What is your experience with the Canadian immigration system?
6. When is payment expected (e.g. full payment up front, half now half later, etc.)?
7. Can you give me any references of other clients?

You may be able to find some of this information on their web site:
