Hello Homa,

It is great that you are looking into taking as different types of classes.

You can find some information on French Language Classes here:

How can I learn French as a Second Language?
http://www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4000335

You will find links to organizations that provide French Language Classes. There may be some services at school boards that are provided for free.

You also mentioned that you were interested in improving your English
language skills. You can find some information on that here:

How can I improve my English?
http://www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4000241

You may also want to contact an Employment Resource Centre for information on career planning and courses that may be available for you to take. You can find an Employment Resource Centre near you here:

Since you stated that you are in Toronto, you may also want to contact the nearest Community Information Centre for additional information and suggestions on where you can find the various classes in Toronto.

You can contact them by dialing 211 for free on your phone or you can contact them here:

Community Information Toronto - Toronto
425 Adelaide Street West, Toronto
Tel: 211 or (416) 397-4636

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions and if there is any follow up to your question/situation.

Hello,
I want to learn French. I went to all places I find it expensive. I heard from our settlement work that there are FSL like ESL for adults and free but I am searching from the morning and I didn't find anything.
By the way I went to the all websites which you suggested to ones who ask you and all of them are expensive and no thing in Scarborough. If you find something free or good price and in Scarborough please write. It will be appreciated.

I used to be a French as a second language instructor in Ottawa. Obviously, French is in high demand here because it's a huge asset to get a job in the government.

I just wanted to stress on the fact that "free classes" are not easy to find and it's quite understandable. Teachers and instructors must be paid!

You can usually find cheaper classes (because they are subsidized) through community centers, libraries etc. Another option would be to join a conversation group (there are quite a few in Ottawa, not sure about the GTA).

Learning a language is an investment. I understand that classes may not look affordable at first but keep in perspective that being a teacher or an instructor is a very full-time job.

I found this too, unfortunately you can't get a real person on the phone and my messages have remained unanswered. Since I live in the area I was thinking of dropping by. Will post if I have any new information.
