Introduction
This guide provides information and suggestions that will help you establish good communication with your child’s teacher and the school. Good communication makes it easier for the teacher to get to know your child and for you to understand what is happening in school. It will make the adjustment to a different school system as smooth as possible. Your involvement will help your child be a successful student.
The guide is based on the comments of many newcomers and teachers about what a newcomer parent needs to know when his or her child starts school in Ontario. Without their help, this guide would not have been possible.
Consult this guide as your child progresses though elementary school. Use the index to select the sections that you need.
The guide is available in eighteen languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (traditional and simplified scripts), Croatian, Farsi, French, Gujarati, Hindi, Korean, Pashtu, Pilipino, Punjabi, Russian, Serbian, Somali, Spanish, Tamil and Urdu.
