For Our Kids features nine newcomer parents talking about how they helped their children be successful in school and the importance of parent involvement in the Ontario education system.
The parents describe the many ways they are involved; supporting the child's adjustment to a new school, attending parent teacher interviews, talking with their child about school and talking with teachers about problems. The parents also speak about some of the barriers to their involvement and how they overcame them.
A teacher and vice-principal explain that teachers welcome their involvement. The more parents are involved, the better students do. As one parent put it, "that's why we came to Canada, for our kids".
