ACTEW logo
A Commitment to Training and Employment for Women (ACTEW)
Settlement.Org is part of the Content-Sharing Constellation Project, a network of community-based training (CBT) organizations that share online content. You can find events and workshops in your area and job listings in the settlement sector.
 We have partnered with Access Alliance Multicultural Community Health Centre to create a Nutrition and Healthy Living section on Settlement.Org. Access Alliance works to promote health and well-being and to improve access to services for immigrants and refugees in Toronto by addressing medical, social economic and environmental issues.
The Access to Professions and Trades (APT) Unit of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities provides information for internationally trained workers seeking to enter their occupation in Ontario. Find specific occupational information, get more explanations about how to get back into your profession or trade and find help in your local community in the APT Portal on Settlement.Org.
Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) collects, organizes, and distributes information, and acts as a national clearing house and referral service to support the recognition and portability of Canadian and international educational and occupational qualifications. They have allowed us to use their information in the Settlement.Org Guide to Studying in Canada.
Centre for Education and Training Newcomer Information Centres (NIC) in Brampton and Mississauga contribute event postings to Settlement.Org on a regular basis. Click here for event listings.
The Centre for Equality Rights in Accomodation (CERA) provides one-on-one advice and assistance to people who have experienced discrimination in their search for housing. CERA has contributed to a number of articles on Settlement.Org.
Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) has given us permission to reproduce a number of their publications as guides on Settlement.Org.
ClEONet CLEONet is an online clearinghouse for community legal education in Ontario. Visit CLEONet to find hundreds of resources from organizations across Ontario on legal topics affecting low-income and disadvantaged communities. findhelp Working closely in partnership, Findhelp Information Services, the YMCA of Greater Toronto Newcomer Information Centre and the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants have created the Settlement and Newcomer Services Portal for Toronto. Findhelp manages 211 Ontario, a free number you can call for information on education, job skills, housing, child care, health services and more. We partner with the current 211 local websites to provide access to community service listings in your area.
Landlord's Self-Help Centre

Landlord's Self-Help Centre is an incorporated non-profit organization that provides information, assistance and educational programs to Ontario's small scale landlords free of charge.

Settlement.Org has worked with the Self-Help Centre to create awareness of the legalization of Second Suites in Toronto and landlord resources.
New Media Language Training New Media Language Training has created a website for ESL teachers and newcomers. With their permission, we have reproduced the text from their website. The site has animated stories, information, and exercises to improve listening, reading, and vocabulary. In the eight sections, users can learn practical tips on how to protect themselves and their families from crime, what to do in an emergency as well as how the courts work, immigration law, landlord-tenant law in Ontario and more.

The Ontario Skills Passport (OSP) provides clear descriptions of the essential skills and work habits important for work, learning and life. The OSP offers job seekers, workers, employers and others a common language, resources and tools that help build competence, confidence and connections.

Sentor Media Sentor Media Inc. - an organization created in 1995 with a mission to provide practical, up-to-date Canadian employment information. The information they research is linked to the hidden job market, where they believe the great majority of job opportunities exist. Sentor Media has given us permission to reproduce a useful guide to job search strategies for youth.
Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS). To help newcomer students and their families settle in their school and community, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Settlement Agencies and School Boards have established a school based outreach program called Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS). There are SWIS programs in six communities in Ontario. SWIS is hosting their guides to the elementary and secondary school systems on Settlement.Org.
Torono Public Library

Toronto Public Library develops services and programs that contribute to the successful adaptation of newcomers to Toronto. To ensure the relevancy and accessibility of these programs, the Library consults with Settlement.Org and other community partners. Newcomers can learn more about Settlement.Org at presentations at library branches.

WAC

Workers' Action Centre is a worker-based organization committed to improving the lives and working conditions of people in low-wage and unstable employment.

WES World Education Services (WES) is the largest and one of the oldest academic credential evaluation services in North America. Its mission is to facilitate immigrants’ access to employment and education through the provision of credible and reliable evaluation of degrees and diplomas at the Secondary and Post-Secondary level. WES evaluations are widely recognized and can be used for employment, education, licensing and immigration purposes. WES is recognized, and funded in part, by the Government of Ontario. They have a guide to getting educational credentials evaluated on Settlement.Org.
Working closely in partnership, Community Information Toronto, the YMCA of Greater Toronto Newcomer Information Centre (NIC) and the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants have created the Settlement and Newcomer Services Portal for Toronto. The YMCA NIC also regularly contributes event listings to Settlement.Org.
Susan Qadeer A personal and career counsellor with decades of experience, Susan currently works at George Brown College. She has written some useful employment articles on career strategies, getting a job in Canada, interview tips, and Canadian etiquette at play, at work, and at school.
Deborah Noel An employment counsellor and facilitator in the Toronto area, Deborah has been working with newcomers for many years. She has provided us with practical articles on resumes and cover letters, dealing with the stress of change and improving English conversation skills.
