Services for Specific Groups

Many community and social services focus on clients from specific groups. If you need help and do not know where to go, you might find assistance below.

Children and Families
Settling in a new country can be a stressful experience for a family. One of the biggest concerns for newcomers with young children is finding affordable and appropriate child care.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT)
In Ontario, there is a growing network of social services available that offer assistance and support to members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community.

People with Disabilities
There is a growing network of services available to help people with disabilities participate fully in the social, economic and cultural life of the province.

Seniors
In 1998, Ontario was home to approximately 1.45 million seniors. Almost 20% of these seniors were immigrants or the children of immigrants.

Women
While women in Canada enjoy far more equality than many women in other countries, they continue to experience inequities in their daily lives.

Youth
Newcomer youth have different settlement needs than their parents. While there are not many organizations that serve newcomer youth directly, there are many resources that you may find helpful online.
