Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO)
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) is a self-regulating professional body. Under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1956 [PDF Format, 200 KB, 6 pages], an Ontario government statute, the purpose of the ICAO is to:
- establish and develop standards of knowledge, practice, and professional ethics for members, students, and firms
- promote and increase the knowledge, skill, and proficiency of its members and students
- provide for the exercise of disciplinary authority over members, students, and firms
You must be a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario to use the title Chartered Accountant and the CA designation in Ontario.
The Institute works in partnership with the other provincial institutes of Chartered Accountants and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants to harmonize standards and programs.
