Mutual Recognition Agreement with ACCA

CGA Canada has a mutual recognition agreement with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), an accounting body with headquarters in the United Kingdom. This means that the two accounting bodies recognize the qualifications of each other’s members.

If you are a member in good standing of ACCA, you may need to complete only the CGA tax/law reciprocity assessment in order to be eligible for membership with CGA Ontario. The tax/law reciprocity assessment is an online course designed especially for ACCA members to provide them with essential knowledge about Canadian taxation and business law.

Degree Requirement

You can apply for membership with CGA Ontario under this mutual recognition agreement only if you have a degree from a recognized university. You are exempted from this degree requirement if you received your ACCA designation before August 1998.

If you received your ACCA designation after August 1998 and you don’t have a degree from a recognized university, you can apply for membership with CGA Ontario under a reciprocity agreement. Alternatively, you could earn a university degree first and then apply for membership with CGA Ontario through the mutual recognition agreement.

Please note that in Ontario you are not permitted to practice public accounting until granted a special licence to do so by CGA Ontario or another accounting regulatory body in Ontario.
