Your Accounting Body
If you have a CMA designation from another province or a territory in Canada, you are eligible for admission as a member of CMA Ontario. You do not have to pass any additional exams or courses.
Mutual Recognition Agreements
CMA Ontario has mutual recognition agreements (MRAs) with three other international accounting bodies outside Canada:
- Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
- Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)
- CPA Australia (CPAA)
If you are a member of any of these three accounting bodies and you have a university degree from a recognized university, you can apply to CMA Ontario for advanced standing in the CMA prerequisite studies and for exemption from the CMA Entrance Examination and the CMA Strategic Leadership Program. However, you are required to complete a CMA-approved university course in Canadian taxation to meet the prerequisite studies requirement.

Professional Advanced Standing Policies
In addition, CMA Ontario has professional advanced standing policies for members of the following international accounting bodies:
- the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
- the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP)
If you are a member of either of these accounting bodies and you have a university degree from a recognized university, you can apply for exemption from the CMA prerequisite studies and the CMA Entrance Examination requirements.
