Teach in Ontario - A program designed to assist teachers educated in countries outside Canada to become certified to teach in Ontario. Teach in Ontario assists internationally educated teachers by ensuring they have the resources needed to complete the teacher certification process and to make the transition to Ontario's publicly-funded school system with ease. It offers these resources through three main support options:

  • Better Information
  • Assistance with Documentation
  • Employment Preparation - Sector Terminology, Information and Counselling Program

The Teach in Ontario website www.teachinontario.ca contains information on how you can become a teacher in Ontario. It also contains useful information that will help you understand more about how Ontario's schools are organized and the role that teachers play.

Skills for Change - This Toronto organization offers employment preparation, counselling, English language training, and programs for internationally trained professionals.

Ontario Network for Internationally-trained Professionals Online (ONIP) - This site, created by Skills for Change, was specifically developed to help internationally trained professionals find employment and build a career in their professional field.

Settlement.Org - This website is a central information source for programs and services for newcomers ranging from employment to education to health and housing. This is the most comprehensive Ontario website for newcomers.

Education@canada - A website with resources about education in Canada, particularly for the international education community and international students. It is not a program or service; it is an informational website.

Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto New Canadian and Non-Native English Speaking Teacher's Resource Site - This website has resources and information for non-native English-speaking teacher candidates at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, as well as for internationally trained teachers who are either considering teaching in Canada or already working in Canadian schools. It is not a program or service; it's an informational website.

STEPS to Employment - Offers a series of workshop manuals providing sector orientation and terminology for several professions, including teaching.

Survive and Thrive - A website for beginning teachers, developed by the Ontario Teachers' Federation.

The Ontario Teachers' Federation (OTF) - The OTF was established under the Teaching Profession Act of 1944 as the professional organization for teachers in the province. Every teacher working in the publicly funded school systems in Ontario must belong to the Federation.  L'Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association, and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation are affiliated with OTF.
