How do I renew my Health (OHIP) Card?
You have to apply to renew your Health Card. You apply in the same way that you applied for your first Health Card.
If you have a green Health Card with a photo, your card has a section near the bottom that says "Valid Until." You need to renew your card before this date.
If you have a red and white Health Card, your card does not expire. The government does not give out red and white cards anymore.
If you have a red and white card, you may get a letter from the government asking you to re-register for health coverage and get the photo Health Card. This does not mean that your Health Card or health care coverage are expiring. You have the choice to follow this request or not. If you want to re-register and get the photo card, follow the instructions in the letter. You will need to show valid identity documents as part of the re-registration process. Call the Ministry of Health INFOline at 1-800-664-8988 for more information.
Do not let your Health Card expire. If you do not have a valid Health Card, you may have to pay for health services.
