CIC Bulletin: Restoration of Status for Temporary Residents

Tuesday, July 07, 2009

This Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) bulletin is about restoration of status - that is, about restoring your status if your study permit or work permit expires, and you apply within 90 after the expiry date.

The bulletin is for CIC officers, and guides officers about how to process applications.

It explains that "the person seeking restoration must meet the requirements of the class under which they are currently applying to be restored as a temporary resident." That is, you must meet the conditions for the kind of permit (study permit or work permit) that you are applying for, even if you first entered Canada with a different kind of permit.

The bulletin has examples of situations when this might happen.

Read Operational Bulletin 130 - Restoration Guidelines.
